MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A man and a woman were arrested early Wednesday morning in connection with an armed robbery that occurred last weekend in northeast Miami-Dade.
The suspects were identified by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office as George Byrnes, 32, of Surfside, and Jessica Clendening, 34.
According to an arrest report, two victims told deputies that both suspects arrived at their home Saturday night in the 14400 block of Northeast Fourth Avenue and asked for a specific person who lives there.
Once one of the victims confirmed that the person they were looking for lives there, Clendening grabbed the door, opened it and entered the home uninvited, with Byrnes following behind, authorities said.
According to the report, Byrnes pulled out a gun as he entered the home and pressed it up against the forehead of one of the victims, demanding money and for the person he was searching for.
Deputies said the victims complied, giving Clendening about $200 in cash and notifying the person they were looking for.
According to the report, the victim who the suspects had been looking for identified them in a photo and confirmed that he has known them both for several years.
The arrest report did not disclose why the suspects were allegedly looking for him.
Deputies said both suspects were detained around 2:45 a.m. Wednesday by MDSO Robbery Intervention Detail detectives in the area of 46th Street and Alton Road.
Byrnes invoked his right to counsel and did not make a statement to detectives.
Both he and Clendening were arrested on charges of home invasion robbery with a firearm. Byrnes faces an additional charge of aggravated assault with a firearm.
As of Wednesday afternoon, both were being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Online jail records showed their bonds listed as “to be set.”
