MARGATE, Fla. — A pickup truck crashed through the front of a Margate pub Wednesday afternoon after the driver accidentally hit the wrong pedal, city officials said.
The incident happened just after 3 p.m. at Jerzy’s Pub, located at 6502 W. Atlantic Blvd.
6 p.m. report:
Surveillance footage obtained by Local 10 News shows the truck briefly veering into traffic before circling back, hopping a parking curb and slamming through the front entrance of the business.
The truck barreled through the pub’s glass doors and continued inside, damaging much of the interior before coming to a stop near the rear of the building.
The female driver was not seriously injured, officials said, and no patrons were hurt. They said the pub was open at the time, though customers were seated away from the point of impact.
“Thank God nobody was hurt, ya know, that’s very important,” said pub owner Jerzy Oles. “Nobody was on that side, people were on the other side.”
Margate police secured the area as city inspectors assessed the structural integrity of the building, which has since been declared unsafe.
4:30 p.m. report:
The truck was later towed from the scene as investigators work to confirm whether driver error led to the crash.
Jerzy’s Pub previously gained national attention when it was featured on Season 9 of Bar Rescue, a television series that revamps struggling bars.
Oles said damage estimates have not yet been finalized, but the cost is expected to reach tens of thousands of dollars.
No charges or citations had been filed as of Wednesday evening.
