MIAMI — U.S. Army Reserve Lt. Col. Jason A. Reding Quiñones is officially the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida.

During a swearing-in ceremony on Wednesday in Miami, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi administered the oath of office.

In a statement, Reding Quiñones described himself as the son of a Cuban political refugee and a proud Miami native, and he pledged to “work tirelessly to protect the American people, restore impartial justice, and defend the rule of law without fear or favor.”

The Justice Department described him as a decorated 22-year veteran who has experience as a judge advocate in the U.S. Air Force and provides legal counsel to the U.S. Department of Defense’s Central Command.

The University of Florida and Florida International University College of Law graduate was admitted to the Florida Bar in 2008 and changed his name from Jason Reding to Jason Reding Quiñones in late 2023.

With experience as a federal prosecutor and a DOJ national security official, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced his appointment on Feb. 16, 2024, as a judge on the Miami-Dade County Court.

President Donald Trump announced the nomination on Feb. 17, on Truth Social, and Reding Quiñones secured a 52-44 confirmation vote in the U.S. Senate on Aug. 2. He is the first U.S. Attorney to be confirmed during Trump’s second presidency.
