BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. — The Humane Society of Broward is featuring a 6-year-old poodle mix named Pepper in this week’s in Local 10’s “Adopt a Pet” segment on Saturday morning.

Shelter staff say the 14-pound dog has plenty of energy and is looking for a family to give her a second chance after her previous owners gave her up.

Humane Society volunteer Cherie Wachter described Pepper as “a live one,” sharing that the pup even managed to slip out of her collar and run around the studio during her visit.

“She has a lot of energy,” Wachter said. “She’s very sweet, and for people looking for a little dog, Pepper could be the one for you.”

Wachter explained that Pepper does have a manageable medical condition known as dry eye, which requires daily drops costing about $40 a month.

“The clinic staff said she’s good at getting her drops, but it’s something to keep in mind as an additional expense,” she said.

Despite that, Pepper is potty trained, enjoys squeaky toys, and responds well to treats.

Wachter added that Pepper might do best in a home with older children and could benefit from a harness or car seat belt since she gets so excited during car rides.

“She’s really cute, she’s playful, and she’s a diamond in the rough,” Wachter said.

The Humane Society of Broward has a variety of other pets available for adoption, including German shepherds, a French bulldog, and several cats.
