MIAMI — A man was killed early Monday morning in a shooting in Miami’s Liberty City, authorities confirmed.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the shooting was reported at 4:19 a.m. in the area of Northwest 18th Avenue and 66th Street.
Deputies from the Northside district responded to the scene and found the victim on the ground, suffering from apparent gunshot wound to his arm.
“When I got up to go use the bathroom, I heard a shot, but I didn’t pay that much attention because I was in the house,” a man identified only as Bobby said. “I laid back down and I got up again. When I got up again to go to the store, it was roped off.”
Bobby told Local 10 News that the victim goes by CJ and is known by everyone in the area.
“He cool, he likes to crack jokes, he had a good spirit, so I feel like whoever did this -- that’s messed up,” Bobby said.
Deputies said a Miami-Dade Fire Rescue unit also responded to the scene and transported the victim to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The victim was later pronounced dead at the hospital by medical staff.
No other details were immediately released.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
