MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Two 18-year-old men are facing charges in connection with an armed robbery that authorities say occurred at a smoke shop in Miami-Dade’s Gladeview neighborhood last month.
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies said the incident occurred just after 7 p.m. on July 6 at General Smoke Shop, located at 2975 NW 62nd St.
Jail records show Malik Jacari Crossley and Corey Lanard Hayes Jr. each face one count of armed robbery with a firearm or deadly weapon.
Authorities said a store employee was working behind the counter when Hayes drove a blue Honda Accord, occupied by Crossley and an unknown third suspect, to a nearby church.
They said Hayes walked into the store to make a cash purchase while the other two remained in the vehicle.
After returning to the car, deputies said Crossley and the third suspect entered the store, pulled out handguns, and demanded money and property from the victim.
The suspects then escorted the victim to the back of the business at gunpoint while searching for cash and merchandise, according to the report.
Deputies said Hayes then took a backpack containing approximately $300, while Crossley pointed a handgun at the victim.
They said both suspects then took CBD products and grinders from the front counter before fleeing to the waiting vehicle. Hayes drove all three away with the stolen property, the report stated.
Video surveillance from the store captured the robbery, and authorities were notified shortly afterward, according to investigators. Deputies said both Crossley and Hayes were later identified and located.
As of Wednesday, both men were being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
