MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Miami Dolphins running back Jaylen Wright had what coach Mike McDaniel called a “small procedure” that will sideline him for a period of time, though it is not considered season-ending.
In response, the Dolphins signed running backs Jeff Wilson and JaMycal Hasty to add depth to the position.
Wilson, 29, appeared in nine regular-season games with Miami last season, rushing 16 times for 57 yards and did not record a touchdown.
Hasty, 28, signed with the Patriots in early August for his second-tour of duty with the team, but was later released.
Both he and Wilson played under McDaniel when he was coaching in San Francisco.
General manager Chris Grier said Wednesday that running back De’Von Achane is expected to be available for Miami’s Week 1 game at the Indianapolis Colts. Right tackle Austin Jackson also told reporters he will be ready to play in the Sept. 7 season opener.
The Dolphins have seen promising play from rookie running back Ollie Gordon II, who is expected to help spell Achane when the 2025 season begins.
Miami will begin their season on the road at Indianapolis. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. on Sept. 7.
