The father of 13-year-old Gianni Jackson also talked to a Broward County Public Schools bus driver who stopped in front of the home at the 5500 block of Southwest Sixth Street.

Fire rescue personnel responded to the house fire, which caused a partial roof collapse, at about 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. A Florida Power & Light crew also responded.

City officials said crews were able to rescue a second dog from the home.

One firefighter’s gear was set ablaze, but he or she wasn’t hurt, officials said.
