MIAMI — Jurors on Friday heard more evidence against Daisy Link, the Homestead woman standing trial after being accused of murdering her on-again, off-again boyfriend in 2022.
The 30-year-old may take the stand when it comes time for the defense to present its case. Link gained notoriety in 2024 after becoming pregnant while in jail.
Miami-Dade jurors learned about the bizarre path of the deadly bullet that killed Pedro Jimenez, traveling in and out of his heel, then through his right thigh.
Dr. Benjamin Mathis, the deputy chief of the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Office said Jimenez was facing away from Link when she shot him with a ghost gun and pierced his femoral artery.
“The left foot needs to be up in the air in order for it to be facing the barrel,” Mathis testified, saying that it was consistent with the victim trying to run.
A sergeant’s body-worn camera recorded on June 25, 2022, shows Link standing over him and his body, acting as though she just happened to find him in the alley near her home.
She made similar statements to officers on scene, 911, dispatch and a detective with what was then the Miami-Dade Police Department, who eventually interviewed her.
Detective Melanie Ginoris, with what is now the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, testified that Link was “very defensive.”
“She said, ‘Why was I treating her as a person that shot the victim?’” Ginoris testified.
Ginoris said Link made a sudden confession while being fingerprinted.
“She said, ‘I did not mean to kill him,’” Ginoris said.
The state alleges that Link killed Jimenez, the father of two of her children, in a fit of rage. Defense attorneys say she was defending herself from an abusive partner.
In court, prosecutors played an infamous surveillance video clip they said is Link making a flippant comment about “hit(ting) a major artery” after shooting Jimenez, telling him, “You’ll be fine.”
“What was her reaction to that (video)?” a prosecutor asked Ginoris.
Ginoris replied, “She said that she did not say that.”
Prosecutors also played a video of Link being questioned by detectives, still in her bloody clothes, at times sobbing, eventually admitting she’s the one who pulled the trigger.
The state is expected to rest its case and the trial will resume next week.
