The Kasa at Cortland community’s residents reported they “heard” a couple yelling, saw a man kicking a front door, and heard him say, “he would kill the girl,” according to a police report.

Hollywood police officers responded to the three-story apartment building at 1900 N. 29 Ave. A police officer’s body-cam video showed them shouting orders, weapons drawn.

Hollywood police officers identified the man, who was accused of “mule-kicking the door,” as Damontae Kelly, of Fort Lauderdale, according to an officer’s arrest report.

While in custody, Kelly, 29, of Fort Lauderdale, identified the woman as his girlfriend, an Airbnb user who had rented the apartment, according to the police report.

Kelly denied trying to break into the apartment and said he just wanted to talk to his girlfriend, according to the police report. He faced a second-degree misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct and breach of the peace.
