Memorial nurse talks about surviving an aneurysm while working

AVENTURA, Fla. — Jauvana Hall-Wills said she will never stop telling her survival story because she knows it can help save lives.

The Memorial Healthcare System’s acute care nurse practitioner cares for patients with serious brain conditions at the Memorial Neuroscience Institute.

“I had the worst headache of my life. I became dizzy, and I had blurry vision,” Hall-Wills said.

She was working when her colleagues rushed to her aid, and a scan showed a large aneurysm in her brain.

“If it wasn’t for my coworkers, I would have just tried to brush it off and go home,” Hall-Wills said.

But had she gone home, the aneurysm could have ruptured, and Hall-Wills likely would have died, leaving behind her daughter, Jade.

Hall-Wills had just come from her native Jamaica, where he trained doctors and nurses about the symptoms of strokes. aneurysms.

“The same surgeons I worked with, or I was with on the mission trip, were the same surgeons who had to treat me,” Hall-Wills said.

Dr. Norman Ajiboye said they used a minimally invasive technique to insert two stents into her brain and she went home the next day.

“It was a privilege for my self and my colleague Dr. Davis to take care of Jauvana,” Ajiboye said. “She’s one of our great nurse practitioners.”

Hall-Wills said she is a better caregiver because of it and wants everyone to know that an aneurysm can strike anyone.

“It’s not like, ‘I know what you’re saying.’ I know exactly what you’re saying,” Hall-Wills said. “I know exactly how you feel. I know the fear. I probably know more fear.”

Hall-Wills said it can happen to even the young and healthy, so if you ever experience the worst headache of your life, get to the emergency room.
