MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — On Wednesday, in Miami-Dade County, a 31-year-old man waited for a judge to sentence him to either the death penalty or life in prison.
Before the sentencing, Anthawn Ragan and Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Marisa Tinker Mendez listened to testimony during the penalty phase.
“One of the exit wounds had an actual bullet that was falling out of him,” Edgardo Chardon, a paramedic, said during his testimony on Tuesday about a little boy’s injuries.
Ragan declined to testify during the penalty phase. Attorney Reginald “Tony” Moss, who represented Ragan, said that since Ragan was already being punished, the death penalty was unnecessary.
Miami-Dade County court records show a status hearing was set for 9 a.m. on March 10.
