MIAMI — Miami residents will be electing their new mayor on Tuesday after a crowded race with 13 candidates.
Emilio González, who served as Miami’s city manager from 2018 to 2020, and Eileen Higgins, a Miami-Dade County commissioner, raised the most campaign monetary contributions.
As of Monday afternoon, González, a retired U.S. Army Colonel who lives near Coconut Grove and received Gov. Ron DeSantis’s endorsement, had raised $217,766.
González, the Miami-Dade Aviation Department director from 2013 to 2017, has experience heading the Western Hemisphere Affairs at the National Security Council, was the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service director, and worked in the Office of Special Assistants for the Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. Southern Command.
Higgins, who has experience as an engineer, was a marketing executive, the director of the Peace Corps in Belize, and a diplomat in the foreign service, raised about $193,548. Alex Díaz de la Portilla followed with $152,810, and Ken Russell with about $143,003, records show.
Michael Hepburn raised about $38,529, Christian Cevallos raised $31,550, Xavier L. Suarez raised $18,100, Kenneth James DeSantis raised $6,260, Elijah Bowdre raised $4,550, June Savage raised $3,905, Alyssa Crocker raised $1,525, and Laura Anderson $1,250.
