U.S. diplomats in Havana issue security alert

HAVANA — The U.S. Embassy in Havana issued a security alert on Tuesday afternoon in Cuba over daily power outages and a fuel shortage.

The alert shared on X reported that Cuba’s national electrical grid was “increasingly” unstable and there were long lines at gas stations.

The alert asked U.S. citizens to “take precautions by conserving fuel, water, food and mobile phone charge” and to beware of ”anti-U.S. rhetoric."

Bloomberg reported on Tuesday that tourism, a key driver of the island’s service-based economy, was “on a downward spiral.”

U.S. President Donald Trump continued to put pressure on the one-party communist state.

On Monday, while in the Oval Office at the White House, Trump told reporters that Mexico’s oil shipments to Cuba were going to stop.

On Sunday, while aboard Air Force One, Trump told reporters that the U.S. was starting to talk to Cuban leaders.

On Thursday, Trump signed an executive order to impose tariffs on countries that sell or provide oil to Cuba.
