PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. — Cherie Wachter said “Coco” is among the dogs that need a loving home on Valentine’s Day during the annual “Adopt A Sweetheart” event in Broward County.
Wachter, a spokeswoman for the Humane Society of Broward County, said the sweet, gentle, and calm female beagle mix only weighs about 27 pounds.
“She came to us from a shelter in a rural area of Florida where not a lot of people go to adopt,” Wachter said. “She is getting her second chance here in South Florida.”
The adoption fee for dogs, cats, and bunny rabbits that are one year of age or older is half price during the event.
“If you are looking for a furry Valentine, we hope you will stop by,” Wachter said, adding that the shelter’s Valentine’s Day bake sale started at 11 a.m. at the Humane Society of Broward County’s shelter at 2070 Griffin Road.
Wachter said registration was open for the VCA Walk For The Animals to be held at 9 a.m. on Feb. 21 at the Las Olas Intracoastal Promenade Park.
