Tua Tagovailoa showing leadership qualities during training camp

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Miami Dolphins return to the Baptist Health Training Complex on Friday, and the leadership of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has not gone unnoticed.

Entering a pivotal, must-deliver sixth season, Tagovailoa, 27, has demonstrated growth in leadership throughout training camp practices – most notably with wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

“Continuing to work on the things that I feel I’m good at but also trying to get better and trying to still master a lot of the concepts which still give me conflict with different coverages or one look at a coverage pre-snap to post-snap. Still trying to work on that,” said Tagovailoa after Wednesday’s practice.

Having earned the orange jersey for his standout performance in the previous practice, the former Alabama quarterback has looked particularly sharp – consistently connecting with both his star wide receivers, and still yet to throw an interception.

“I would say I’m not thinking too much about it if I throw an interception or if I don’t throw an interception. In camp, you just want to see how consistent you can be with the plays that you’re given,” Tagovailoa said.

Tagovailoa’s durability, of course, has been a major topic of discussion this offseason – as he’s played just one fully healthy season since being drafted in 2020.

“Me not putting myself in situations where I’m not available for my team, and then we take it from there,” Tagovailoa said.

“If I can stay healthy for our guys, I believe, and I think the team believes, that I give us the best chance to go do what we say we want to do,” he added.
