MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Miami Dolphins officially released their initial 53-man roster in preparation for the team’s season opener on Sept. 7 against the Indianapolis Colts.
Here’s a breakdown of every position:
QB (3): Tua Tagovailoa, Zach Wilson, Quinn Ewers
The Dolphins are carrying three quarterbacks on their initial 53, with the rookie Ewers serving as the emergency third quarterback on game days.
RB (4): De’Von Achane, Ollie Gordon II, Jaylen Wright, Alec Ingold (FB)
General Manager Chris Grier told local reporters on Wednesday that the expectation is De’Von Achane will be ready for Week 1. The team already lost Alexander Mattison for the season because of a neck injury that occurred in the preseason, so that could mean more opportunities for rookie Ollie Gordon II.
WR (6): Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Malik Washington, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, Tahj Washington, Dee Eskridge
Tahj Washington, Malik Washington, and Eskridge made the most of their opportunities during preseason play in what is a very talented receiver room.
TE (3): Darren Waller, Julian Hill, Tanner Conner
The Dolphins recently activated Waller from the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, with head coach Mike McDaniel telling reporters his participation level in practice will increase heading into Week 1. The team released Pharaoh Brown and Chris Myarick.
OL (8): Patrick Paul, Jonah Savaiinaea, Aaron Brewer, James Daniels, Austin Jackson, Kion Smith, Daniel Brunskill, Larry Borom
Three names are missing from this list: Andrew Meyer, Liam Eichenberg, and Kendall Lamm. Meyer will begin the 2025 season on IR with the designation to return. The team moved Eichenberg to the reserve/PUP list and signed Lamm on Wednesday afternoon.
DL (6): Zach Sieler, Kenneth Grant, Benito Jones, Jordan Phillips, Zeek Biggers, Matthew Butler
Miami used draft picks this past April on Grant, Phillips, and Biggers, with all three showing the coaching staff that they belong on the initial 53. Butler was claimed off of waivers from the Las Vegas Raiders.
LB (9): Jaelan Phillips, Bradley Chubb, Chop Robinson, Jordyn Brooks, Tyrel Dodson, K.J. Britt, Willie Gay Jr., Matthew Judon, Cameron Goode
Easily the most dangerous position on the defensive side of the football, the Dolphins are hoping their pass-rushers can make an impact this season. The Dolphins signed the veteran Judon on Aug. 19.
CB (6): Storm Duck, Jack Jones, Jason Marshall Jr., Cam Smith, Ethan Bonner, Rasul Douglas
The cornerback room isn’t officially set at the moment, as the Dolphins signed the veteran Douglas to a one-year deal on Tuesday. They also waived Isaiah Johnson, who had initially made the 53-man roster, and placed Smith on the reserve/non-football illness (NFI) list. Additionally, Miami acquired JuJu Brents off waivers from the Indianapolis Colts, Miami’s Week 1 opponent.
S (5): Minkah Fitzpatrick, Elijah Campbell, Ifeatu Melifonwu, Ashtyn Davis, Dante Trader Jr.
The Dolphins brought Fitzpatrick back this summer after trading cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Jordan Colbert was on the initial 53, but in a corresponding roster move, Miami released Colbert to sign Rasul Douglas.
ST (2): Jake Bailey, Joe Cardona
The special teams unit is still a work in progress, with the Dolphins recently placing kicker Jason Sanders (hip) on IR with the designation to return, meaning he will miss at least the first four games. Kicker Riley Patterson, who has bounced around between several teams, was added to Miami’s practice squad and is likely to serve as the team’s kicker until Sanders returns.
