Why is this happening?

After 69 years, WPLG-TV and the ABC television network are parting ways. After months of negotiations between the Berkshire Hathaway-owned television station and the network, the two parties could not reach an agreement to extend the affiliation agreement. Despite a generous offer to ABC from WPLG, ABC will pull its programming effective Aug. 4. Click here for more information.

Because of this, WPLG is being forced to change the frequency it transmits on and terminate Nextgen TV services to create space for another station to carry ABC programming.

To make the transition somewhat easier and less confusing for our viewers, WPLG decided to break the transition into two phases. The first phase will be to move our over the air transmission from one frequency to another on July 28th. Over the air viewers will need to rescan (see below for more information). Once that is done, WPLG, Channel 10, will continue to show up as Channel 10.1 along with MeTv as 10.2 and H&I as 10.3.

The second phase will be to remove ABC programming and replace it with thoughtful hyper-local programming on August 4th.

Also on August 4th, because WPLG will no longer be carrying ABC programming, several streaming services will stop streaming WPLG. There’s more information below on which streaming services will be impacted and different ways to stream WPLG for FREE.

Do I need to rescan my TV?

If you use an antenna to receive Local 10, you will have to rescan your TV on July 28 after 10:30a.m. If you receive Local 10 any other way, you will not need to rescan.

How do I rescan my TV?

1. Select Channels, Scan or Autotune from your TV or converter box setup menu to start the scanning process.

2. Your TV will do the rest. This process usually takes a few minutes to complete.

Once your rescan is complete you will still find WPLG-TV on the same channel number as before. If you have rescanning difficulties, you can usually find instructions by selecting the “Set-Up” or “Menu” button on your television or converter box remote control. You can also consult the TV or converter box owner’s manual for detailed instructions on how to run a channel scan, or contact customer service for your TV or converter box manufacturer.

Click here for more information on rescanning.
