MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — The Primary Election in Florida was held on Tuesday, Aug. 20.
In addition to selecting a candidate from each party for two U.S. Senate races, Miami-Dade County voters selected their choices for U.S. representatives from numerous districts, as well as selected their choices for Miami-Dade sheriff – a newly created elected position in the county.
The winners from each major political party will face off in November.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and Miami Gardens Mayor Rodney Harris, meanwhile, were both re-elected to their positions Tuesday night.
Candidates in both races needed 50 percent of the vote to win, otherwise a runoff between the top two candidates would have been held in November.
