Jan. 30: Prepare for potential record cold this weekend for South Florida

Slightly cool and mostly dry conditions can be expected across South Florida Friday night. Temperatures are forecast to dip to the low and mid 50s overnight across Miami-Dade and Broward counties. The remainder of the weekend will feature a dramatic dip in degrees with the likelihood of some of the coldest temperatures since 2010. Records are likely to be challenged!

An arctic cold front will cross the region on Saturday, bringing the possibility of rain showers (particularly between 10am and 2pm for Dade and Broward).

After the front clears, a significant drop in temperatures starts to occur. Brisk, northwest winds (sustained 15 to 20 mph, gusts to 40) will funnel very dry, very cold air over the area, Keys included.

Temperatures are forecast to only climb to the low and mid 60s Saturday -- that is some ten or more degrees below the normal high this time of year. The mercury will plummet as the night unfolds. Lows are expected in the mid 30s for metro/coastal Dade and Broward Sunday morning with wind chills in the low and mid 20s. Climatologically, the average low temperature early February is 62°F for Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Though the afternoon will offer ample sunshine, temperatures are expected to only reach the low 50s on Sunday!
