Ex-Bachelor’s broken heart: Prince’s vengeful employee shows preference for rosé during South Beach burglary

SOUTH BEACH, Fla. — A South Beach restaurateur — who is a prince in Italy and is best known as The Bachelor in ABC’s season 9 in 2006 — said surveillance video shows a vengeful employee with a preference for rosé.

Lorenzo Borghese, the owner of the South Beach Brewery Bar, at 210 11 St., recognized a burglar as Alfredo Julien, who was born in New York and had walked out on the job.

Borghese, a member of an Italian noble family with papal background, said he had come to regret hiring Julien to work at the bar as a cook for some weeks — since now all he was cooking was trouble.

“It’s just a shame ... You want to trust people and give them second chances, and this really hurts people who want a second chance because I am obviously cautious now,” Borghese said.

Surveillance video shows Julien walking out of the bar at about 6 p.m. on Sunday without finishing his shift, and returning at about 5:30 a.m. on Monday, according to police and Borghese.

During the burglary, Julien damaged the cash register with a kitchen knife and a metal tool to steal $500, and he drank a $30 bottle of rosé wine, according to the police arrest report.

“He left the wine on our counter and then took a nap right here on our couch ... And then, got up around a little after 8 a.m., walked out the door, and from my understanding, went to his other job,” Borghese said.

In all, Borghese said Julien caused about $800 in damages at his bar. Records show Julien had an active bench warrant for petit theft in Miami-Dade County.

During his arrest, Julien had the same black backpack he was carrying during the burglary at the bar, according to police.

Miami Beach police officers reported arresting Julien shortly before 6:15 p.m. on Monday at 1100 Fifth St., in South Beach, according to the arrest report.

Miami-Dade corrections booked Julien shortly after 8:40 p.m. on Monday at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, according to inmate records.

Julien faced three charges: Burglary of an unoccupied structure, criminal mischief, and petit theft. His bond was $3,500, but records showed that he remained at TGKCC on Wednesday night.
