‘Reliance’

‘Reliance’ is the first U.S. solo exhibition by the notable artist, Maurice Mboa. Mboa presents an exhibition that marks his arrival on a new continent and a new chapter in his life. His journey from Africa to Europe, the Middle East, Asia and now the United States forms a symbolic path across cultures. Each step has shaped his artistic language, and this show brings these influences together.

Orchestra Miami Presents: Dance from the Spanish Americas

Time: 3 p.m. – 4 p.m.

This engaging and colorful performance features dancers in period costume, live music, narration, songs and audience participation activities. Members of the audience will be invited to try their hand at a castanet activity, an 18th century Peruvian bird dance and an invitation to try steps of an 17th century Mexican shoe dance. The performance also showcases the 19th century “habanera” from Cuba and baroque dance from both Spain and Mexico.

49th Annual The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade

NW 12th Avenue & NW 54th Street

Miami, FL

Time: 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Join Local 10 as we celebrate MLK Day and broadcast LIVE from this event. The parade proceeds west along NW 54th Street and concludes at NW 32nd Avenue & NW 54th Street. The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade is a family-friendly, community celebration honoring Dr. King’s legacy of unity, peace, and service.

Monday, Jan. 19

MLK Parade & Celebration

Blanche Ely High School to Mitchell Moore Park

Pompano Beach, FL

Time: 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

The parade begins at 9 a.m. at Blanche Ely High School along MLK Blvd and back. The celebration will begin immediately following the parade at Mitchell Moore Park, located at 901 NW 10th Street, with live entertainment, a kid’s zone and food for purchase. Organizations from the community, including City officials, churches, local businesses, fraternities and sororities, etc. will march together representing Dr. King’s six principles of non-violence.

Dozens of music students from over 10 local studios will perform recitals as part of a “Musicthon” to raise funds for the Broward County Music Teachers Association (BCMTA). Students collect donations from friends and family in support of their performance. A portion of the proceeds will also benefit 4KIDS of South Florida, a nonprofit organization propelled by the vision of a home for every child, with the mission of providing hope to kids in crisis.

Cost: Free and open to the public.
