Popcorn Fright Times starts 10-day celebration of independent horror films in Fort Lauderdale

Popcorn Frights Film Festival

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — It’s time for Popcorn Fright Times!

Igor Shteyrenberg and Marc Ferman founded the festival as an ode to horror films in 2015.

“Marc and I put together $500 between us,” Shteyrenberg said about the history of the festival.

It includes both in-theater and virtual screenings of independent films from Thursday to Aug. 17.

“People just love horror, they love to be scared,” Ferman said. “They have a lot of fun with it.

Erynn Dalton, a director, and Joseph Zettelmaier, a writer, will be screening “American Cryptids” at the Savor Cinema, an arthouse in a former Methodist Church built in the 1940s.

“It has been a long journey and I am glad we get to show it here,” Dalton said.
