MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — A man was arrested Thursday evening during the Miami Open after deputies said he became “unruly” and allegedly struck an officer while being escorted out of Hard Rock Stadium.
The suspect was identified in an arrest report as Pedro Nelson Caniza, 47, of North Miami Beach.
Deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said the incident happened while they were working at the stadium, located at 2267 NW 199th St.
According to the report, Caniza was being escorted out of Court 3 by security when he became belligerent, yelling profanities and saying, “I paid a lot of money to be here!”
A deputy then began escorting him out of the venue, at which point Caniza allegedly shouted, “F--- you p---- n----, I’ll f--- you up!” before turning and striking the deputy in the face with his finger, the report states.
Authorities said Caniza resisted arrest as deputies attempted to detain him, causing minor injuries to his elbow before he was handcuffed with the help of security personnel.
They said Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to treat his injuries at the scene.
Jail records show Caniza is facing one count each of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer with violence.
As of Friday morning, he was being held on a $3,500 bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
