BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. — From Miami to Hollywood, California, Demetrius “Lil Meech” Flannery Jr. is making waves as the star of the hit series BMF.
The show is based on his family’s story, and Flannery joined Local 10’s Alexis Frazier on Saturday to talk about his role, his father’s legacy and his future plans in Miami.
Born and raised in Miami, Flannery has quickly become a rising star.
On the show, Lil Meech portrays his father, Demetrius Flenory, also known as “Big Meech,” a name that’s been mentioned in rap songs such as Rick Ross’ Blowin’ Money Fast.
“After the song was made he went to Detroit, pulled up at my grandma house and gave her some,” he said.
Flannery says his dad’s life was more complicated than most realize, and BMF offers a glimpse into that story.
“They haven’t even gotten to the glitz and the glamour and you know the nitty gritty. This is just the beginning of young Meech growing up, showing the world what he went through as a child, how he became who he was,” he said.
Since childhood, Flannery’s father has been behind bars, but now that he’s home, Lil Meech says he plans to give back alongside him.
“The feeling is surreal. I love it. I love being able to pull up on him any time I want,” he said. “We’re gonna be able to go around different schools and colleges, me and him both, and talk to the kids, get them some words of encouragement.”
Flannery is also carving out his own path as a model and entrepreneur, with big dreams for the future.
He added that working with Denzel Washington is at the top of his list.
