In 2016, Benny and Leor Barak opened their dream restaurant near the bars and clubs of Wilton Drive, and they expanded.
For years, there was demand for their signature waffled grilled cheese at the New York Grilled Cheese restaurants in Wilton Manors and Boca Raton.
Rising rents changed that, and they transitioned to NYGC EXPRESS, a delivery-only operation at the FTL Food Hub, a restaurant cooperative in Fort Lauderdale.
“Think of it, you know, as a warehouse type of operation,” Benny Barak said.
NYGC EXPRESS has a fast-paced system that relies on digital applications and third-party services to connect with customers.
The FTL Food Hub’s behind-the-scenes team picks up the order from the commercial kitchens and places it in a designated locker. Drivers with UberEats, DoorDash, and Grubhub rush in and out regularly.
Walk-ins at the FTL Food Hub, at 1115 NE 9th Ave., can also use tablets to place their orders. For more about NYGC Express, visit this site.
