Lubin’s Classic Bakery hit with stop-use, stop-sale order over rodent infestation, food safety violations

DANIA BEACH, Fla. — A Dania Beach bakery in the spotlight after state inspectors found rodent droppings throughout food preparation and storage areas and a long list of other health and safety violations during two recent inspections.

On Thursday, Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services inspectors reported rodent droppings in nearly every part of Lubin’s Classic Bakery, 1466 W. Dixie Highway.

Evidence of pests was discovered on floors, inside a mop sink, beneath bakery tables, behind equipment, on an unused bread slicer, and even inside a metal mixing bowl.

The severity of the infestation prompted inspectors to issue Stop-Use and Stop-Sale orders on all open and exposed food, as well as on all food-processing areas and incoming shipments.

The bakery was barred from receiving any food items until the pest problem is eradicated and the facility is cleaned and sanitized to the state’s satisfaction.

Inspectors also noted sanitation issues, including grease buildup on pans, soil and debris on floors, water-stained ceiling tiles, and personal employee belongings stored on top of food containers. A valid 2025 food permit was not displayed.

Other violations on Aug. 14 included:

Missing soap and paper towels in restrooms.

Utensils not sanitized after washing.

No written cleanup procedures for vomit or diarrheal events.

No certified food protection manager on staff.

Improper storage of scoops inside food containers.

Thursday’s inspection followed a July 30 inspection that had already uncovered rodent droppings in the bakery department, unsafe food temperatures, and improper handwashing practices.

That earlier visit resulted in multiple Stop-Sale orders after cooked poultry, sauces, and pickled cabbage were found stored at unsafe temperatures. Inspectors also reported employees failing to wash hands between tasks, storing raw eggs above ready-to-eat foods, and using “thank you” grocery bags to cover cooking pots.

Both inspections cited expired food manager certification, lack of employee training on illness reporting, and general facility disrepair.

State records show the bakery must correct all violations and request a re-inspection before it can resume normal operations. If pests are found during the next visit, inspectors warned, all food on the premises will be ordered destroyed.
