Roaches fall to the floor during inspection; 7 eateries ordered shut last week

Six South Florida restaurants and one food truck were ordered shut last week after state inspectors found serious health hazards.

At Walter’s Coffee Shop in Palmetto Bay, roaches were so prevalent, they were falling out of an oven.

Fresh & Wild Fish in Hallandale Beach was cited for roaches and flying insects.

Sak Pase Restaurant in Miami had roaches, a filthy kitchen and food stored at unsafe temperatures.

Y&O Peruvian Food in Cutler Bay had wastewater backing up in the kitchen along with roaches and spoiled food.

Al’s Coffee Shop in Coral Gables had no working handwashing sink and poor hygiene practices.

El Toro Loco Churrascaria, a food truck in Miami, was shut for flying insects and unsafe food storage.

And Toa Toa Chinese in Sunrise was ordered closed for having no running water, flying insects and employees being unable to wash their hands.

All the places mentioned were allowed to re-open following an ordered cleanup and re-inspection.

“Roach activity present as evidenced by live roaches found. Observed more than 25 live roaches crawling inside the oven of a stove located at the front cook line area of the kitchen. When oven door was opened roaches fell to the floor and started crawling all over the kitchen floor. Observed a live roach crawling inside the drawer of the reach in cooler where food is stored. Reach in cooler is under the grill in the cook line area. Also observed a live roach crawling inside clean utensils under preparation table in the kitchen area and another live roach in the dry storage under the sugar container."

“Ceiling/ceiling tiles/vents soiled with accumulated food debris, grease, dust, or mold-like substance. Observed AC Vents with dust at the dining area. Repeat Violation.”

“Floor soiled/has accumulation of debris. Observed at the front counter and throughout the kitchen area.”

“Interior of microwave has accumulation of food debris in the kitchen area. And also observed reach in cooler door gaskets soiled. Repeat Violation.”

“Wall soiled with accumulated grease, food debris, and/or dust. Observed behind the stove at the front line. Repeat Violation.”

“Nonfood-contact surface soiled with grease, food debris, dirt, slime or dust. Observed side of the stove with accumulation of grease. And hood filters soiled.”

“Employee with no beard guard/restraint while engaging in food preparation.”

“Employee touched soiled surface and then engaged in food preparation, handled clean equipment or utensils, or touched unwrapped single-service items without washing hands. Employee was using his cell phone then engaged in food preparation without washing hands.”

“Stop Sale issued on time/temperature control for safety food due to temperature abuse.
