HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — Ana Cabrera, who works as a health insurance agent, said she is hoping for the best but preparing for the worst.
Medicare and Marketplace open enrollment season for next year runs from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7 amid the uncertainty that Affordable Care Act enrollees face.
“There are going to be challenges for certain sections of the population,” Cabrera said, adding, “Their prices are going to increase drastically.”
Cabrera was among the hundreds of health insurance agents who attended an industry conference by Madrina’s Insurance at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood.
The government shutdown continued on Friday as Democratic lawmakers demanded that Republicans include health insurance subsidies in the bill on government funding.
“We’re hopeful that you know both sides are going to be able to find something soon,” Ammer Cabrera, of Madrina’s Insurance, said.
Cabrera said that since the Inflation Reduction Act, the COVID provisions that extended subsidies, is expiring at the end of the year -- some 4 million people could be affected.
“The actual Obamacare original subsidies are still in place,” Cabrera said.
