Early morning runners have fun in Miami Beach

Runners had fun on Saturday in Miami Beach during the Halloween Half Marathon, Freaky 4-Miler & Trick, and Treat Kids Dash events.

The half-marathon runners started at 6:30 a.m., the 4-mile runners at 6:45 a.m., and the kids at 10 a.m. The start and finish lines were at Seventh Street and Ocean Drive.

“I have been training for about six months, and I also wanted to see the outfits,” Axel Perez said before the half-marathon race.

Caroline Lefrak was the women’s half-marathon winner.

“My kids run. They are faster than me, so I have got to stay in shape to keep up with them,” Lefrak, 41, said.

Peter Spellacy was the men’s half-marathon winner.

“I mean first 7 or so miles felt good, then wind really picked up with the rain and I was kind of dying for the last two,” Spellacy, 18, said.

The event, which started in 2009, had the support of the Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority. For more information, visit this page.
