Homestead police: Father arrested for domestic violence, child abuse

Junior Rios Police officers arrested Junior Rios on Tuesday in Homestead and he appeared in court on Wednesday in Miami-Dade County.

HOMESTEAD, Fla. — A 26-year-old man appeared in Miami-Dade County court on Wednesday after police officers accused him of domestic violence and child abuse in Homestead.

Police officers arrested Junior Rios shortly before 6:50 p.m. on Tuesday in Homestead, and correctional deputies booked him at about 10:15 p.m. at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, records show.

The domestic violence victim identified Rios as her partner of about two years and reported that he attacked her while she was holding their one-year-old child, according to the police arrest report.

On Wednesday, Miami-Dade prosecutors filed a case against Rios for the domestic violence on Oct. 21. Rios has an arrest record that includes marijuana and weapons charges, according to court records.

Rios faced new charges of battery by strangulation, battery, child abuse with no great bodily harm, and robbery by sudden snatching. A judge ordered him to stay away from the victim and set his bond at $6,500.

Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Miguel De La O was set to preside over the case.
