Man arrested for fatal shooting in Deerfield Beach

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. — Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies announced on Monday that a 32-year-old man was behind bars after a murder in Deerfield Beach.

Deputies reported arresting Jarvis Chinn on Sunday near the 200 block of Northwest 30th Avenue in Pompano Beach.

Leotis Breedlove Jr. died at Broward Health North after deputies found him wounded on Sunday morning outside of his home at 251 NW Second Way, according to BSO.

Court records show Chinn, who was born in Fort Lauderdale, also lived at 251 NW Second Way. Deputies reported he fled after the shooting.

After his arrest, BSO correctional deputies booked Chinn at the Broward County Main Jail in Fort Lauderdale, inmate records show.

Chinn is a convicted felon. In a 2016 case in Broward County, he was convicted of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault and sentenced to seven years in prison, records show.

According to the Florida Department of Corrections profile, Chinn was in custody from April 2, 2018 until his release on Oct. 23, 2022.

For the recent fatal shooting, Chinn faced one count of first-degree murder with a firearm. Broward County Circuit Judge Michael Lynch was set to preside over Chinn’s capital homicide case.
