OPA-LOCKA, Fla. — A 19-year-old man confessed to several robberies in Miami-Dade County after a carjacking on Sunday in Opa-locka, according to a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputy’s report.

A victim reported that he was cleaning his car on Sunday morning at the Chevron gas station, at 2200 NW 95 St., when two gunmen stole his wallet and his Ford, records show.

With the help of the victim’s Ford app, a deputy found the stolen Ford at Northwest 100 Street and 23 Avenue and approached, records show.

The driver, who deputies later identified as Barry A. Wells, crashed into a pole, and he and a passenger jumped out of the Ford and took off running, according to a deputy’s arrest report.

Deputies set up a perimeter, and a deputized dog with a detective found Wells hiding in a house’s backyard along Northwest 101 Street near 23 Avenue, and seized his gun, according to a deputy’s report.

While at the M-DSO’s robbery bureau, Wells “confessed to the robbery in question, along with multiple robberies that occurred within Miami-Dade County,” a deputy wrote, according to an arrest report.

Miami-Dade inmate records show corrections booked Wells on Sunday evening at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he remained on Monday afternoon.

Miami-Dade court records show prosecutors filed a case against Wells for armed robbery carjacking and resisting arrest without violence, and a judge issued an order granting his pre-trial detention.

Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Milton Hirsch was set to preside over the case.
