MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — A man faced charges on Tuesday after police officers reported there were about 525 spent bullet shell casings in his backyard in Miami Gardens that were evidence of a shooting on New Year’s Eve.
Dorian Alvarenga, a suspect in the shooting, told a detective that he had hosted a large New Year’s Eve party at the home along Northwest 27 Avenue, near 173 Terrace, records show.
Inside Alvarenga’s home, Miami Gardens police officers seized 13 guns, including nine Glocks, and a semi-automatic AK-pattern pistol, according to a police officer’s arrest report.
A Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office K-9 named Nany found a Glock hidden inside a motorcycle that had an altered identification number, according to police.
Police officers arrested Alvarenga, 28, on Monday in Miami Gardens, and he appeared in court on Tuesday in Miami-Dade County.
Alvarenga faced seven charges: Two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, shooting or throwing a deadly missile, culpable negligence, unlawful discharge of a firearm in a public place, possession of a firearm with an altered ID, and criminal mischief. His bond was $8,800.
