Police officers’ body cameras recorded video of Jonathan Rivas during a traffic stop on Sept. 17 after he was driving a white Honda northbound on Northeast 19 Avenue near 170 Street, according to prosecutors.

A police officer reported Rivas was “furious,” there was a “strong odor of marijuana,” and he had “two glass pipes and two empty baggies” in the Honda, according to a police arrest report.

Rivas pushed a police officer to get back in his car, sped away while weaving in and out of traffic, and crashed into several cars at Northeast 18 Road and 185 Street, according to police.

Rivas then got out of his crashed car and ran until a police officer pushed him to the ground and ”gave several distractionary strikes to the ribs and face" before his arrest at 1812 Miami Gardens Drive, according to police.

After his arrest, police officers took Rivas to a North Miami Beach Police Department station and to Jackson Memorial Hospital before dropping him off at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
