After a news conference on Thursday morning, Cuban-American members of Congress shared more ideas for President Donald Trump and his administration to get tougher on Cuba.
U.S. Rep. Carlos A. Giménez told Local 10 News This Week In South Florida Anchor Glenna Milberg that the U.S.-Mexico-Canada free trade agreement negotiations were a chance to get Mexico to stop sending oil to Cuba.
U.S. Rep. Mario Díaz-Balart told Milberg the Justice Department could file a federal criminal case against Raúl Castro for the deaths of Brothers to the Rescue pilots Carlos Costa, Armando Alejandre, Jr., Mario de la Peña, and Pablo Morales.
“In the case of murder, there is no statute of limitations,” Díaz-Balart told Milberg.
Raúl Castro was Cuba’s Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces when the Cuban Air Force shut down two Brothers to the Rescue’s Cessna 337 planes on Feb. 24, 1996. He served as Cuba’s acting president and president from 2006 to 2018.
The 94-year-old made a public appearance alongside Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel on Jan. 15 at the José Martí International Airport in Havana to receive the remains of the 32 Cubans who died in Venezuela, according to Granma, the government’s newspaper.
