TAMPA, Fla. — The Tampa Police Department released the video that a police officer’s body camera recorded during a daring rescue, as dark smoke billowed from a burning house on Saturday night.
The patrol police officers arrived at the house along North Highland Avenue before firefighters did. They talked to a woman who said there was a man inside who had fainted.
A police officer shouts, “Can you come to me? I can hear him! Sir, come to us!”
Three police officers did not hesitate and got on the floor to crawl inside. One shouted at the man to “Crawl!” The man had collapsed on the floor and couldn’t respond or stand up.
One police officer said, “Lets go! Let’s go! Let’s go!”
The video shows one of the officers holding the man’s ankle. They dragged and carried him out, as a woman shouted nervously outside. The police officers were in the house for about 30 seconds.
The man and the officers were treated for smoke inhalation once fire rescue personnel arrived, police said.
