Miami-Dade judge sentences ‘remorseless’ convicted murderer to life in prison

Miami-Dade judge sentences convicted killer to life in prison

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Malcolm Johnson was 21 when he was killed during an armed robbery in 2023. His mother addressed his 23-year-old convicted killer in Miami-Dade County court.

Miami-Dade County Judge Christina Miranda allowed Donna Saddler, Johnson’s grieving mother, to speak during Marcuss Ealy’s sentencing hearing on Monday.

Saddler said Johnson, who was convicted of first-degree murder and armed robbery on Oct. 1, was remorseless.

“I’m seeing if you have remorse, you ain’t got no remorse, and I wish they give you the max, I really do,” the mother told Ealy. “You took my son’s life, and you’re gonna regret it. You’re gonna regret it.”

During the hearing, Miranda ordered Ealy to stop his disruptive behavior, which included sighing loudly and clanking his handcuffs.

Miranda threatened Ealy with a straitjacket or covering his mouth. She later sentenced Ealy to life in prison with a 25-year minimum mandatory sentence.

A prosecutor said surveillance video shows Ealy shooting Johnson during a robbery in the back alley of a strip club in North Miami Beach.

The prosecutor listed the evidence against Ealy, who detectives accused of stealing Johnson’s chain, taking photos of it, and sharing these on social media.
