Deputy's video shows rescue after fiery crash in Florida

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office deputies were afraid that a car was going to explode, but that didn’t stop them from rescuing a driver.

Sgt. John Floyd, a 14-year SJSO veteran, was among the deputies who responded to a multi-vehicle crash shortly after 3 a.m. on Sunday along Interstate 95.

A driver was ejected. Flames engulfed a car near the International Golf Parkway. The department released the video on Wednesday.

“I saw that I had an access point where I could have gone into the woods and grabbed him, so that’s when I made the decision to just run in and grab him,” Floyd told First Coast News. “He was yelling for us to help him.”

The driver survived and was recovering from his injuries, as Florida Highway Patrol troopers investigated the cause of the crash, according to deputies.
