Time to Smile: 85-year-old graduates from Florida International University

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. ā€“ At 85, Arlyne Frankel is celebrating her graduation from Florida International University.

The grandmother said she got the itch to go back to school when she turned 80.

After starting college at 18, she said she took a break to start a family and her own business that brought her to South Florida.

In 1966, Frankel married, she eventually went on to have two boys and later managed The Churchill Hotel in Miami Beach. She changed careers after about 15 years and went from the hotel business to a career in communications.

After a lot of hard work and discipline, she said she felt proud on Tuesday to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies.

ā€œNever give up, itā€™s never too late,ā€ said Frankel.

After graduation, Frankel has plans to participate in her local art community.
