Local 10 celebrates 65 years on the air in South Florida

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. — WPLG Local 10 News marked a very special milestone this week.

The station celebrated its 65th anniversary.

Channel 10′s first broadcast took place 65 years ago this week, when it signed on as WPST-TV in 1957.

The station was renamed WLBW-TV in 1961 and then WPLG in 1970 after the late Philip Graham, owner of the Washington Post.

Local 10 News’ CEO Bert Medina recognized many of the station’s employees for their length of service during a celebratory event held on Tuesday.

WPLG has four employees who have been with the station for more than 40 years, and another 29 employees who have been with Local 10 for 25 years or more.

Nearly half the people who work at WPLG have been with the station for more than a decade.

After 65 years on the air, none of it would be possible without the viewers who trust Local 10 News each and every day.
