WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden made a major promise in his speech Tuesday on protecting women’s reproductive rights as his party looks to seize on the key issue leading up to the midterm elections.
“If you care about the right to choose then you have to vote,” said Biden.
Biden promised to make Roe (in reference to Roe V. Wade) the “law of the land” if voters give Democrats control of congress in November.
“The court got Roe nearly 50 years ago and I believe congress should codify Roe once and for all,” said Biden.
The Biden Administration pushed back at any efforts to restrict women’s rights as the GOP is energized by the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down the 1973 ruling that legalized abortion nationwide.
Republicans are now preparing new legislation including one co-sponsored by Florida Senator Marco Rubio that would ban abortions nationally after 15 weeks.
“Let me very clear if such a bill were to pass in the next several years, I’ll veto it,” said Biden.
More than a dozen states have already stopped nearly all abortion services.
White House Deputy Press Secretary Olivia Dalton made it clear to Local 10 News that the stakes could not be higher.
“You know, as well as I do being in Florida, states across the country have passed draconian abortion bans, said Dalton. “It’s critically important that women across this country make their voices heard”
