Video: Medley police seek pair who followed victim from bank, broke into car to steal cash

MEDLEY, Fla. – Medley police are looking for a pair of men they say followed a victim who had just withdrawn cash from a bank in order to steal it, officials said Friday.

Police said on Jan. 24, the pair, driving a dark-colored Dodge Journey, followed the victim from a Doral bank to a truck parts store located at 9795 NW 87th Ave. and parked close to the victim’s pickup.

The crime was captured on camera.

“An unidentified male exits the rear passenger side, walks to the victim’s driver’s door, damages the victim’s door lock, gains access, and steals an envelope that contained the recently withdrawn money,” Officer Deglys Chavarria, a Medley Police Department spokesperson, said in a news release Friday.

The driver of the Dodge went inside the business to act as a lookout. Police released a screenshot from CCTV cameras inside the store showing that suspect.

Police also provided tips on how to prevent similar crimes:

  • Be vigilant when at banks
  • Count the money before leaving the counter in front of the teller
  • If able, conceal or put away the envelope with money before exiting the bank
  • Do not leave money in your vehicle, keep it on your person at all times.
