Former Boca Raton attorney charged with murder

BOCA RATON, Fla. – A former South Florida lawyer is facing a first-degree murder charge.

Police have withheld a lot of information about the case, however, the man sought for a murder that happened outside of a law office barricaded himself inside a Boca Raton building on Saturday.

Local 10 News later learned that a former attorney at that law office had been arrested and charged with murder.

A photo from the law firm’s website shows happier times for Paul and Brandon Labiner.

The father and son duo once worked together as attorneys at Paul Labiner’s practice in Boca Raton.

They had a falling out though, as paperwork obtained by Local 10 News shows Paul Labiner sued his son back in September.

The suit alleges Brandon Labiner had stolen nearly half a million dollars from his father’s bank accounts and that he had “poor work ethic as an attorney.”

Brandon Labiner, now facing a murder charge, appeared in court on Monday, where he was denied bond.

Police haven’t revealed the identity of the victim in Brandon Labiner’s case, but authorities confirmed that they investigated a murder Saturday in a parking garage connected to Paul Labiner’s law office.

According to the arrest report obtained by the South Florida Sun Sentinel, surveillance footage from that parking garage shows a man seeming to wait for someone.

According to the report, a man can be seen pacing back and forth. He then hides behind a wall and appears again. There is a scuffle with another man, and the victim’s body is later discovered in a breezeway.

Police said the man they believe was behind the murder could be seen on surveillance footage arriving at the scene on a bicycle.

On Monday, police showed up at Brandon Labiner’s home, even diving in the pond behind the dwelling as part of the investigation.

According to the arrest report, police found a bicycle matching the description of the bicycle in the case. They also found a gun cleaning kit, and in the bathroom, a paper with the number of the attorney now representing Brandon Labiner.

Local 10 News reached out to that attorney but did not hear back at the time this story was published.
