FAU’s Florida’s First-Generation Students Application Now Open
[BOCA RATON] – As National First-Generation Student Day quickly approaches on November 8, Florida Atlantic University’s (FAU) Kelly/Strul Emerging Scholars Program announced its applications are now open for the Class of 2026. “First-generation students need a strong foundation of support and encouragement,” Kelly/Strul Emerging Scholars Program Co-Founder Aubrey Strul. The Kelly/Strul Emerging Scholars Program aims to lessen the crippling burden of school debt. Miami scheduled to play Florida Atlantic in fall exhibition
Miami baseball will play a fall scrimmage after not competing last fall because of COVID-19, the team announced Tuesday. With an exhibition scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 23, UM travels to Boca Raton, Florida, to play Florida Atlantic University at FAU Baseball Stadium. “After last fall’s scrimmage was canceled due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are happy to have the opportunity once again to play FAU,” Miami head coach Gino DiMare said in a statement. “This game allows our players to get that game-like experience that you don’t quite feel playing intrasquad games amongst yourselves. 74-year-old Florida woman fights off alligator, gets bitten to save dog in Boca Raton
A Florida woman and her dog were attacked by an alligator during their evening stroll. According to the Palm Beach Post, 74-year-old Suzan Marciano was walking her golden retriever mix, Nalu, near a lake at Burt Aaronson Park west of Boca Raton when their evening turned for the worst.
Canes sweep FGCU, wrap up non-conference play
FGCU (7-4) started the season off hot, winning their first six matches, before cooling down and losing four of their last five. The Canes contributed to the Eagles’ recent struggles Friday afternoon, jumping out to a quick 6-1 lead in the first set. FGCU fought back, however, and went on a 6-1 run of their own to tie it up 7-7. The Canes racked up 16 kills with an astounding .481 hitting percentage and 16 kills in 27 attempts, with three errors.
