New treatment approach offers help for eczema sufferers

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Researchers have uncovered a new treatment approach that could benefit some of the more than sixteen million Americans who have atopic dermatitis, or eczema.

Dermatologist Dr. Jeffrey Fromowitz said a recently published review found that allergen immunotherapy reduced the severity of the condition.

“In addition, not only did the disease presentation improve, people were less itchy, fewer rashes, less symptomatic, but more important they standardized the impact the disease has on the quality of their life. And they found that with actual measurable statistics, in the quality-of-life index as well. So, symptoms were reduced, and quality of life was improved by undergoing immunotherapy,” he said.

Fromowitz said the benefits were seen with both sublingual immunotherapy treatment and injections.

MORE BENEFITS OF FERMENTED FOODS

Research has shown that fermented foods are not just good for your physical health but mental health as well.

“Eating fermented foods is a powerful tool for nurturing your mental health by changing your microbiome. It releases beneficial bacteria into our gut that makes a good environment for creating neurotransmitters that help to boost our mood,” said Dr. Susan Albers, a psychiatrist with Cleveland Clinic.

Conversely, ultra processed foods have been found to actually increase a person’s risk for depression.
