Burglars target vehicles in North Lauderdale fitness center parking lot

NORTH LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Broward Sheriff’s Office is searching for a group of burglars who they said has targeted at least 10 cars parked in a fitness center parking lot in North Lauderdale.

The car burglaries have occurred since Aug. 9 in the YouFit parking lot, located at 7346 McNab Road.

“The thieves have lifted purses, wallets, credit cards, electronics and other personal items from the vehicles of victims who were inside the gym working out,” BSO spokesman Carey Codd said Thursday in a news release. “In at least one instance, detectives say a victim received notifications from his credit card company shortly after the burglary that his credit cards were being used to purchase gift cards at a Walmart store.”

According to Codd, surveillance video shows the thieves using the stolen credit cards.

“Investigators remind members of the public to lock their cars, avoid leaving personal items or electronics in their vehicles at any time and park in well-lit areas,” Codd said.

Anyone with information about the identities of the burglars is asked to call BSO North Lauderdale District Detective Sergio Espinoza at 954-720-2265 or submit a tip through the SaferWatch app.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may can contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or online at browardcrimestoppers.org. Tipsters can also dial **TIPS (8477) from any cellphone in the United States.
