Firefighters extinguish blaze at Broward County church

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A fire at a church in Broward County kept crews busy for much of Wednesday night.

Fire rescue workers received a call from congregation members early Wednesday evening about flames and smoke at the National Church of God on Northwest 12th Street near 31st Avenue.

Firefighters said they were able to quickly extinguish the fire.

The pastor told Local 10 News he believed the fire somehow started in the attic area, and firefighters said they found smoke coming from the roof of the church and believe the fire started in a light fixture.

Fire rescue workers said they do not consider the cause of the fire suspicious.

No injuries have been reported, according to authorities.
