Police: Man arrested after pulling out knife outside Miami-Dade middle school

MIAMI – A 32-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after he pulled out a knife on another person during a dispute outside the front of a middle school in Miami-Dade County, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 10:15 a.m. Wednesday outside Brownsville Middle School, located at 4899 NW 24th Ave.

According to the suspect’s arrest report, Darren Johnson was involved in a dispute with another party about 30 feet from the main gate of the school when he pulled out the knife.

Miami-Dade Schools police took Johnson into custody and found a Glock handgun on him, the report stated.

The school was placed on lockdown as a precaution during the investigation.

According to the arrest report, Johnson was ultimately detained and transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

He faces charges of exhibiting a firearm on school property, possession of a firearm on school property, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and disrupting or interfering with an educational institution.

As of Thursday afternoon, Johnson remained in jail on a $33,500 bond.

Further details about the initial dispute outside the school were not immediately released.
