Suspect in custody after Palmetto Bay bank robbery

PALMETTO BAY, Fla. – Local and federal authorities took a suspect into custody following a bank robbery in Palmetto Bay Saturday morning, according to the FBI.

An FBI spokesperson said the person, who wasn’t publicly identified, walked into the TD Bank at 14395 S. Dixie Highway and demanded money.

The spokesperson said the suspect got away with an undisclosed amount of cash. Authorities didn’t say what time the robbery occurred.

The area has become a hotbed for break-ins and robberies. The TD Bank robbery comes about a month after Local 10 News reported on a brazen camera store burglary nearby.

“It seems to be like a easy hit, this area around here, but it does appear that the police are cracking down it,” AJ Cardenas, who works nearby, said.

Those working nearby said the bank was also robbed about a year ago.

A Local 10 News crew saw a large police presence in the area of Southwest 128th Street and 71st Avenue in Pinecrest, where the suspect was believed to have been taken into custody.

The home where the suspect was taken into custody is known by neighbors as a hotbed of police activity.

“We know that the police has been called to that particular house over 100 times in the last couple of years,” a neighbor said.

Pinecrest and Miami-Dade police, along with federal authorities, were in the neighborhood Saturday morning.
